From mountain lakes to the Lowcountry, a well-built home starts with the details you don’t see. Here’s a closer look at the ZIP System® sheathing and tape Meritus uses on roofs and walls.

A protective layer, built in
Behind the siding, ZIP System combines structural wood sheathing with an integrated water-resistive surface. It helps resist water intrusion while allowing the panels to dry.
For a homeowner, this is an important part of the larger story: how the materials beneath the finished exterior work together to protect the home.
Small seams. Important details.
The panels are one part of the system. ZIP System tape seals their seams, helping create a continuous barrier against unwanted air leakage. That air sealing supports indoor comfort and energy efficiency.
Roof and walls, working together
On the roof, ZIP System sheathing and taped seams create a sealed deck with an integrated water-resistive layer beneath the finished roofing.
Meritus uses ZIP sheathing on both roofs and walls, with ZIP tape joining the panel seams. The result is a coordinated approach to the home’s exterior enclosure, before the siding and roofing complete the picture.
Careful detailing at windows, doors and other transitions also matters. The sheathing is part of a complete assembly, with each layer serving its purpose.

Thoughtful choices beneath the surface
Meritus also uses X Factor subfloor as part of its construction approach. Together, these material choices reflect the attention given to a home long before its finishing touches are in place.
Have a question about the materials that go into your home? We’d be glad to talk through the details and how they fit your project.
